Awareness of Health Issues

Nowadays, a lot of health  & pharmacy-assistant refresher training centres are blooming in all parts of Myanmar. After a short course, they provide the certificate and you can run your own pharmacy for business or can find the hospital or clinical job. There are some controversial issues among the healthcare sectors. Since a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, the consumers and the patients may get the wrong information if they give the irrational message. On the other hand, they have the knowledge of health and it can partly help for the public's healthcare.

A large proportion of teenagers regularly and frequently take some form of medication without receiving targeted information about the risks and benefits. In addition, they take a variety of other medicines for things like stomach aches, sleeping disorders, nervousness, asthma, infectious diseases and for pregnancy prevention. Most teenagers take their medicines appropriately, but there is evidence of accidental or intentional inappropriate use or misuse. At a time when young people want to be independent of their parents and make their own decisions about their bodies and medications, they feel misunderstood by healthcare professionals, have concerns over side effects and may be confused by information coming from a variety of sources such as their friends, their family, the internet, the news, and the healthcare professionals they encounter.

Pharmacists should consider investigating the use of text messages, social media and other web-based forms of communication with this age group, in addition to more traditional methods. We need to bear in mind that some research in different regions of the world has shown that teenagers still expect most information to come directly from their healthcare providers, but not necessarily from pharmacists.

Using pictures and symbols, rather than handwritten words, on prescriptions helps illiterate patients take their medicines correctly when they leave hospital. For older people who live alone, the clear & correct instruction must be given to them. The idea was first tested in a hospital in Pakistan using simple pictures of the sun, moon and stars to help patients understand when and how long to take their medication for. In addition, it must be very careful to take any medicine during pregnancy or nursing period & must be followed under the doctor's advice.

Pharmacists, in and out of the community pharmacy, are specialists in the science and clinical use of medications. They must be knowledgeable about the composition of drugs, their chemical and physical properties, and their manufacture and uses, as well as how products are tested for purity and strength. Additionally, a pharmacist needs to understand the activity of a drug and how it will work within the body. More and more prescribers rely on pharmacists for information about various drugs, their availability, and their activity, just as patrons do when they ask about nonprescription medications.

Since the science & technology are developing day by day, we must update the latest news to keep abreast with the times. Pharmacists also have to complete continuing education courses to maintain and renew their licenses; keep up to date on drug approvals, product recalls and changes to medications’ indications and warnings; and make sure they comply with federal and state laws regulating pharmacy.

Anyway, it is necessary to raise awareness of health issues for every one so that individuals can care for themselves and others.
